About Me

I authored The Relevant Educator and The Educator’s Guide to Connections.  I am an Edutopia Blogger, and I have presented at many national, statewide, and local education conferences as well as Edcamps. I am a founder of #Edchat and Edchat Interactive. I have contributed to the WISE Conference in Doha, Qatar, an International Education Conference, for the last three years. I served as a social media consultant for SmartBrief and a contributing Editor for SmartBlog on Education for SmartBrief. Currently, I am a blogger for Edutopia and winner of the ISTE “Making IT Happen” Award.  I am also a consultant for the London Times Educational Supplement in the USA, TES. After a 34 year career as a secondary English teacher in the Public School system, I taught as an Adjunct Professor of Education at St Joseph’s College in New York, retiring after 6 years. I was also a leader in my New York State United Teacher Local for 30 years. I have founded a number of Educational Groups on Linkedin including Technology Using Professors Group.  I have been recognized with an Edublog Award for the most Influential Educational Twitter Series, Edchat, which I founded. Additionally, I host The Edchat Radio Show for the BAM Network, which is available as free podcasts from K-12 education at the Apple iStore. I have contributed articles to several education journals and I have been a guest Blogger with contributions to many Education Blogs. I created the Ning site, The Educator’s PLN. http://edupln.ning.com/  I am the father of two daughters, and I enjoy pizza and wine on Friday nights. Follow me on Twitter @tomwhitby
